Zif268 is a transcription factor with 88 amino acid residues,which form three zinc finger motifs. This transcription factor acts with other proteins to actively enhance or repress a gene by binding to the DNA recognition sequence 5’GCG-TGG-GCG 3’ at enhancer or repressor sites. AlsS is a coding region from Bacillus subtilis,and has mutated to have functional RE site.Alss encodes alpha-acetolactate synthase protein which is part of isobutanol biosynthesis pathway.
